Aloha! I’m a Database Administrator (MCSE+I, MCSD, and MCT [former]) with a Bachelors’ degree in Economics and a Masters in Business Administration, living in Hawaii. I started up this blog to share my thoughts with you and hear yours on all aspects of SQL Server and the IT industry.I’m currently the Director of DBA Education for Red Gate Software and a Microsoft SQL Server MVP with over 15 years SQL Server experience and over 6 years training experience. So one of my key areas of interest is how DBAs (and SQL Server ones in particular!) can excel in their careers. I’ve got all sorts of articles, posts on my blog, presentations, and more on this topic, so whether you’re considering a DBA career or have been working as a DBA in the trenches for a few years, be sure to check out the relevant material in this blog.If you go to SQL Server user groups, code camps, TechFests, SQL Saturday events, or conferences such as SQL PASS, European PASS, SQL Connections, SQLTeach, devLINK, and SQLBits, I might just see you there one day. I often speak at these events and I attended 26 in 2009, presented 33 sessions and met 1,853 of you there. Please say hello if you see me! Always happy to meet new people and see those I know. Check out my speaking schedule to see where I will be speaking next.
When I’m not speaking, I’m often writing. I’m the author or co-author of more than 15 technical books and over 250 published articles. My most recent books include How to Become an Exceptional DBA, Brad’s Sure Guide to SQL Server 2008: The Top Ten New Features for DBAs, Mastering SQL Server Profiler, and Brad’s Sure Guide to SQL Server Maintenance Plans. These books are available free in PDF format at: www.sqlservercentral.com/Books. Finally, when I’m not working, I’m at home on the Big Island of Hawaii, with my wife and daughter. When I can find some extra time, I like to hike and take photographs. In fact, all the photographs on this website were taken by me.
